What a great week we have had! Your children are doing such a great job as we work through the alphabet each week. They get so excited when we talk about words that begin with certain letters. In fact, they ask all day long, “What does ____ start with?” I love their curiosity! We have also been writing the number 3, and working on some of our fine motor skills like cutting.
In Science this week we read, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and talked about the life-cycle of a caterpillar. We also read “Corduroy” and made our very own bears. Your children have been working very hard as they practice for the grandparent’s day program – they are very excited! If you have not given your rsvp yet, please let me know via email how many sets of grandparents will be attending. The program is Thursday, September 27th at 10:30am! Have a great weekend! Theme – Families Bible – Isaac Verse – Proverbs 22:9 Math – oval, 4, 2-D shapes Handwriting – Dd, 4 Phonics - identify rhyming words Letter of the Week - D Color Word – orange Science – dinosaurs We have had a great week of learning all about the letter B and the number 2. The kids really enjoyed making their letters and numbers out of linking cubes and playdoh.
We also spent some time talking about the sight words, “where, is, my.” The kids did an awesome job of identifying our words and forming them into sentences as well. We spent some time working on the spelling of our names, strengthening our handwriting, and following three-step directions during math and science time. In Bible time we talked about Noah and his obedience to God when he asked him to build the ark. We talked about the rainbow God sent as a promise to never flood the earth again. If you get a chance, ask your child to tell you the story--it’s a good one! I love seeing their excitement about learning! We also worked on writing the number one and drawing triangles. We talked about how triangles have three points, but circles have none.
They also did a great job sharing about their show-and-tell items. We are working on speaking loud and clear in the show-and-tell chair. We are also working on showing respect to our speaker by listening and following with our eyes. Lastly, we wrapped up our community helpers unit by reading a great book by Scholastic called the “ABC of Jobs-The People That Make America Work.” Looking Ahead: Theme – My Senses Bible – The Flood Verse – Romans 3:23 Math – rectangles, 2 Handwriting – Bb, 2 Phonics - identify rhyming words Letter of the Week - B Color Word - yellow Sight Words – where, is, my |
